1. Asian Para Games 2026: Pramod Bhagat and Bhavina Patel to be India’s flag-bearers
Badminton player Pramod Bhagat and para table tennis player Bhavina Patel have been selected as India’s flag-bearers for the Asian Para Games 2026. The fifth edition of the Asian Para Games is scheduled to be held from October 18 to 24, 2026, in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Pramod Bhagat has won six medals at the Asian Para Games, while Bhavina Patel won a silver medal in the women’s singles Class 4 event at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. India achieved its best-ever performance at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games 2022, winning a total of 111 medals, including 29 gold medals.
2. Press Council of India (PCI): Central Government Selects 13 Working Journalist Members
The Central Government has selected 13 working journalist members—comprising six editors and seven other journalists—for the 15th term of the Press Council of India (PCI) under the Press Council Act, 1978. The Press Council of India is a statutory, independent, and quasi-judicial body aimed at safeguarding the freedom of the press and upholding journalistic standards. Its key functions include laying down norms of journalistic conduct, examining complaints related to the press, and promoting accountability and impartiality in the media. Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has been named the Chairperson of the Council for a three-year term ending in April 2026.

4. The RBI cancelled Paytm Payments Bank’s license and removed it from the Second Schedule.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cancelled the banking license of Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) and removed it from the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. Banks included in the Second Schedule are known as ‘Scheduled Banks’ and enjoy certain special privileges under relevant statutory provisions. The RBI had previously taken several regulatory measures, including a ban on onboarding new customers in March 2022 and restrictions on deposits and credit-related activities in 2024.
5. Exchange of Two MoUs Between India and Ghana for Cooperation in Science, Education, and Agricultural Research
During External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Ghana, India and Ghana exchanged two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to foster cooperation in scientific research, education, capacity building, and agricultural research. The first MoU was signed between the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the University of Ghana, while the second was between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Ghana’s CSIR-Crops Research Institute. 6. Nabkisan Finance Lists India’s First Dedicated Social Bond for the WASH Sector
