1. Parliament Rejects Impeachment Motion Against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
   The impeachment motion brought against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar was rejected by both Houses of Parliament. This motion was not admitted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan. Opposition parties had introduced this motion alleging bias in electoral processes, and notices regarding the same were submitted in both Houses.
2. Narendra Bhushan Appointed Secretary of the Department of Land Resources
   Senior IAS officer Narendra Bhushan assumed charge as the Secretary of the Department of Land Resources (DoLR) on April 6, 2026; the Department functions under the Ministry of Rural Development. He is a 1992-batch officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and possesses over three decades of administrative experience.
3. Menaka Guruswamy Creates History, Becomes the Country’s First LGBTQ Parliamentarian
   Senior Supreme Court Advocate Menaka Guruswamy achieved a historic milestone by taking the oath as a Member of Parliament (MP), thereby becoming India’s first LGBTQ member of the Rajya Sabha. This move is being hailed as a significant milestone in fostering inclusivity within Indian democracy and strengthening the political representation of the LGBTQ+ community.
4. UPI QR Code Deployment Rises 15% in 2025; Transactions Up 33%: Report
   According to a report by Worldline, India’s digital payments ecosystem is expanding rapidly, and the
   country is making swift progress toward becoming a cashless economy. In 2025, the number of UPI QR codes surged to 731.38 million, marking an increase of approximately 15 percent compared to the 633.44 million recorded in 2024. During the same period, the volume of UPI transactions also rose to 228.5 billion, reflecting a significant growth of 33 percent.
   
5. Vinay Tonse Assumes Charge as MD and CEO of YES Bank
   Private sector lender YES Bank has appointed Vinay Murlidhar Tonse as its new MD and CEO for a tenure of three years, succeeding Prashant Kumar. His appointment became effective on April 6, 2026, subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the bank’s shareholders. This appointment is viewed as the beginning of a new strategic phase for the bank, aimed at strengthening its financial position and accelerating its growth.
6. G7 Initiative: Boosting Health Policy through the ‘One Health Summit’ in France
   The ‘One Health Summit 2026’ is being held in Lyon, France, from April 5 to April 7, 2026, hosted by France under the aegis of its G7 presidency. Leaders, scientists, and various international organizations from across the globe are participating in this summit, with the collective objective of identifying solutions to global health-related challenges.
7. Divya Singh Creates History: Sets Record by Reaching Everest Base Camp on a Bicycle
   Divya Singh from Uttar Pradesh has achieved a historic feat by reaching Everest Base Camp on a bicycle in just 14 days. This accomplishment was achieved under extremely difficult and challenging conditions, serving as a testament to her courage, patience, and mental fortitude. She began her journey in Kathmandu and covered the distance to Everest Base Camp—a route typically completed as a walking trek.
8. Top Countries with the Best Water Quality
   Clean and safe drinking water is absolutely essential for human life and is directly linked to health, hygiene, and the standard of living. Contaminated water leads to the spread of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid, which have severe repercussions on human health.
